Abstract

Electrical and electronic waste is increasingly treated in improper and unsafe ways, not only harming the environment and health of many, but also substantially wasting scarce and valuable resources. The uptake of electronic and electrical equipment in addition to shortening replacement cycles are further contributing to the growth of the E-waste mountain, to which Asia provides most in total, but Oceania on per capita basis. In response, more and more countries are adopting E-waste policies and legislations. But for achieving sustainable development goals, developments must also move toward innovative concepts such as “Best of 2 Worlds” of “Dematerializing,” which favors the purchasing of services instead of products.
