Abstract

In sociology today, the quantitative analysis of large-scale data-sets and the deployment of rational action theory are not closely related activities. However, the case is made out for a collaborative alliance between their exponents. Such an alliance would be to their mutual advantage in enabling them to respond more positively to criticisms they currently face; and, further, the particular emphases and modifications that would be encouraged on either side would be beneficial in themselves.
