To be named among the elect in Dante's paradise is among the great honors for any church father. But to be copied at the same time in Muslim North Africa is an accolade of a still higher order. Such was the good luck of Orosius (Hurūshiyūsh) during the fourteenth century, when the Florentine literati remembered this avvocato de' tempi cristiani, and Maghribī Arabs, the chronicler of the ayyām al-masīḥ (the days of Christ).
