Abstract

We have performed a search for the rare leptonic decays B+\ensuremath→\ensuremathℓ+\ensuremathν_\ensuremathℓ(l=e,\ensuremathμ), using data collected at the \ensuremathΥ(4S) resonance by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring. In a sample of 468\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi106 BB pairs we find no evidence for a signal and set an upper limit on the branching fractions B(B+\ensuremath→\ensuremathμ+\ensuremathν_\ensuremathμ)<1.0\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-6 and B(B+\ensuremath→e+\ensuremathνe)<1.9\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-6 at the 90% confidence level, using a Bayesian approach.
