Abstract

In La_2\ensuremath-xSrxCuO4 (LSCO) the spectral weight W=\ensuremath∫0^\ensuremathΩ\ensuremathσ1ab(\ensuremathω,T)d\ensuremathω [where \ensuremathσ1ab(\ensuremathω,T) is the ab-plane conductivity] obeys the same law W=W0\ensuremath-B(\ensuremathΩ)T2 as in a conventional metal such as gold, for any \ensuremathΩ up to the plasma edge. However, in LSCO B(\ensuremathΩ) points toward correlation effects and, unlike in gold, is related to an energy scale tT\ensuremath≪t0\ensuremath∼W0. The Ferrell-Glover-Tinkham sum rule is fulfilled in LSCO superconductors for \ensuremathΩ\ensuremath\gtrsim2000 cm^\ensuremath-1.
