A new spin-ladder family material BiCu 2 VO 6 is studied by means of magnetic susceptibility, heat capacity and neutron inelastic-scattering measurements on a powder sample. Singlet ground state and finite spin-gap are confirmed by thermal-activated–type susceptibility and by a distinct peak at 16 meV in spin excitation. A triple-narrow-band structure in the spin excitation spectrum, probably due to the complex crystal structure, is observed and the possibility of a weakly interacting spin-cluster system is discussed.
