Abstract

We study the pure penguin decays \stackrel\ensuremath→B\ensuremathφ\ensuremathπ and B0\ensuremath→\ensuremathφ\ensuremathφ. Using QCD factorization, we find B(B^\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi\ensuremath→\ensuremathφ\ensuremathπ^\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi)=2.0_\ensuremath-0.1+0.3\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-8. For the pure penguin annihilation process B0\ensuremath→\ensuremathφ\ensuremathφ, analyzed here for the first time, B(B0\ensuremath→\ensuremathφ\ensuremathφ)=2.1_\ensuremath-0.3+1.6\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-9. The smallness of these decays in the standard model makes them sensitive probes for new physics. From the upper limit of \stackrel\ensuremath→B\ensuremathφ\ensuremathπ, we find constraints on R-parity violating couplings, |\ensuremathλi23^\ensuremath''\ensuremathλi21^\ensuremath''|<6\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-5, |\ensuremathλi23^\ensuremath'\ensuremathλi21^\ensuremath'|<4\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-4, and |\ensuremathλi32^\ensuremath'\ensuremathλi12^\ensuremath'|<4\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-4 for i=1,2,3. Our new bounds on |\ensuremathλi23^\ensuremath''\ensuremathλi21^\ensuremath''| are one order of magnitude stronger than before. Within the available upper bounds for |\ensuremathλi23^\ensuremath''\ensuremathλi21^\ensuremath''|, |\ensuremathλi23^\ensuremath'\ensuremathλi21^\ensuremath'|, and |\ensuremathλi32^\ensuremath'\ensuremathλi12^\ensuremath'|, we find that B(\stackrel\ensuremath→B\ensuremathφ\ensuremathφ) could be enhanced to 10^\ensuremath-8--10^\ensuremath-7. Experimental searches for these decays are strongly urged.
