Abstract

The mass m_\ensuremathηc and total width \ensuremathΓtot^\ensuremathηc of the \ensuremathηc meson have been measured in two-photon interactions at the SLAC e+e^\ensuremath- asymmetric B Factory with the BABAR detector. With a sample of approximately 2500 reconstructed \ensuremathηc\ensuremath→KS0K^\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi\ensuremathπ^\ensuremath∓ decays in 88 fb^\ensuremath-1 of data, the results are m_\ensuremathηc=2982.5\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi1.1(stat)\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi0.9(syst) MeV/c2 and \ensuremathΓtot^\ensuremathηc=34.3\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi2.3(stat)\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi0.9(syst) MeV/c2. Using the same decay mode, a second resonance with 112\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi24 events is observed with a mass of 3630.8\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi3.4(stat)\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi1.0(syst) MeV/c2 and width of 17.0\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi8.3(stat)\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi2.5(syst) MeV/c2. This observation is consistent with expectations for the \ensuremathηc(2S) state.
