We present results from a search for the flavor-changing neutral current decays B\ensuremath→K\ensuremathℓ+\ensuremathℓ^\ensuremath- and B\ensuremath→K*\ensuremathℓ+\ensuremathℓ^\ensuremath-, where \ensuremathℓ+\ensuremathℓ^\ensuremath- is either an e+e^\ensuremath- or \ensuremathμ+\ensuremathμ^\ensuremath- pair. The data sample comprises 22.7\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi106\phantom\rule0ex0ex\ensuremathΥ(4S)\ensuremath→BB decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B Factory. We obtain the 90% C.L. upper limits B(B\ensuremath→K\ensuremathℓ+\ensuremathℓ^\ensuremath-)<0.51\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-6 and B(B\ensuremath→K*\ensuremathℓ+\ensuremathℓ^\ensuremath-)<3.1\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-6, close to standard model predictions for these branching fractions. We have also obtained limits on the lepton-family-violating decays B\ensuremath→Ke^\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi\ensuremathμ^\ensuremath∓ and B\ensuremath→K*e^\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi\ensuremathμ^\ensuremath∓.
