We improve on a recent determination of \ensuremathαs from \ensuremathΓ(\ensuremathΥ(1S)\ensuremath→\ensuremathγX)/\ensuremathΓ(\ensuremathΥ(1S)\ensuremath→X) with CLEO data by taking into account color octet contributions and avoiding any model dependence in the extraction. We obtain \ensuremathαs(M_\ensuremathΥ(1S))=0.184_\ensuremath-0.014+0.015, which corresponds to \ensuremathαs(MZ)=0.119_\ensuremath-0.005+0.006.
