Abstract

A sensitive search for the lepton-number-violating decay \ensuremathΞ^\ensuremath-\ensuremath→p\ensuremathμ^\ensuremath-\ensuremathμ^\ensuremath- has been performed using a sample of \ensuremath∼10⁹ \ensuremathΞ^\ensuremath- hyperons produced in 800 GeV/c p-Cu collisions. We obtain B(\ensuremathΞ^\ensuremath-\ensuremath→p\ensuremathμ^\ensuremath-\ensuremathμ^\ensuremath-)<4.0\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-8 at 90% confidence, improving on the best previous limit by 4 orders of magnitude.
