Abstract

We have observed the rare decay K+\ensuremath→\ensuremathπ+\ensuremathμ+\ensuremathμ^\ensuremath- and measured the branching ratio \ensuremathγ(K+\ensuremath→\ensuremathπ+\ensuremathμ+\ensuremathμ^\ensuremath-)/\ensuremathγ(K+\ensuremath→all)\phantom\rule0ex0ex=\phantom\rule0ex0ex[5.0\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi0.4(stat)\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi0.7(syst)\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi0.6(th)]\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-8. We compare this result with predictions from chiral perturbation theory and estimates based on the decay K+\ensuremath→\ensuremathπ+e+e^\ensuremath-.
