Abstract

Using a sample of 14\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi106 \ensuremathψ(2S) events accumulated with the BES II detector, evidence for f0(980)f0(980) production in \ensuremathχc0 decays is obtained for the first time; the branching ratio is determined to be B[\ensuremathχc0\ensuremath→f0(980)f0(980)\ensuremath→\ensuremathπ+\ensuremathπ^\ensuremath-\ensuremathπ+\ensuremathπ^\ensuremath-]=[7.6\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi1.9 (stat)\ifmmode±\else\textpm\fi1.6 (syst)]\ifmmode×\else\texttimes\fi10^\ensuremath-4. The significance of the f0(980) signal is about 4.6\ensuremathσ.
