Abstract

DURING the summer of 1877, extensive explorations were made by the U. S. Fish Commission in the U. S. Steamer "Speedwell," Commander Kellogg, in Massachusetts Bay; in the Gulf of Maine; off Nova Scotia; and in the vicinity of Halifax, rrhe dredging and trawling were very successful, and a large and valuable collection was secured, both of fishes and invertebrata, including, in all classes, many European and Greenlandic forms not before obtained on the American coast.As in previous years the invertebrate collections and the direction of the dredging wel'e in charge of
