Abstract

What place remains for Christian Scriptures in a multi-faith world? How can they be treasured? Three sites of tension may be identified: scriptural imperialism, radical relativization, and biblicism. This article proposes that Christian Scriptures are treasured in a multi-faith world when they are made accessible to everyone and “re-owned” for a variety of purposes. This thesis is supported by four avenues of thought: 1) the Sermon on the Mount, 2) the trajectory of the transmission of the Bible, 3) the functions of the Bible, and 4) the reception of the Bible in translation today.
