<p dir="ltr">The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for cross-border cooperation in health and the harmonisation of crucial European health-related initiatives and policies. Health became a key political priority, and the European Commission presented a large number of health policy initiatives as part of the ambition to create a European Health Union,<a href="https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanepe/article/PIIS2666-7762(25)00036-5/fulltext#" target="blank"><sup>1</sup></a> such as those on health data sharing and the EU4Health programme.<a href="https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanepe/article/PIIS2666-7762(25)00036-5/fulltext#" target="blank"><sup>2</sup></a> However, since health issues are not contained within European borders they require a global approach, which is why the European Global Health strategy<a href="https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanepe/article/PIIS2666-7762(25)00036-5/fulltext#" target="blank"><sup>3</sup></a> was developed.
