The aim of this work is to highlight the contributions of the Fundación para el Estudio de Especies Inva-sivas (FuEDEI) to the knowledge on insect ecology and biodiversity of Argentina. As a result of 60 pest bi-ocontrol projects conducted since 1962, 22 viruses and one nematode associated with ants, and 63 insect species have been described for Argentina. This work constitutes an example of the interdependence be-tween the disciplines of biocontrol and taxonomy. In 59 % of the descriptions and/or redescriptions present-ed in this work, at least one Argentine entomologist was involved. This fact is not only a source of pride, but also illustrates the degree of development and excellence achieved by entomology in our country through-out the first 100 years of the SEA.
