In this review, we investigate various aspects of corruption in China, emphasizing its theoretical foundations, different forms, and far-reaching consequences. We also review President Xi Jinping's extensive anti-corruption campaign launched in 2012, assessing its level of success and broader impact on the nation's social and political scene. Furthermore, we explore the relationship between corporate governance and corruption, the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures, and how these measures align with anti-corruption legislation. Additionally, we investigate alternative anti-corruption mechanisms, highlighting the critical roles of stakeholders and the media in promoting ethical corporate behavior. The insights gained from this review offer valuable implications for scholars and practitioners involved in the development and implementation of anti-corruption measures within China's ever-changing governance structures.
