In the same way that atoms make up matter, Western societies are built around the family as one of their elemental units (Furusten, 2023 ). Much of the values and expectations of each community are transmitted to individuals through their families, which play the role of repositories of information and chains of cultural transmission. Despite its importance and ubiquity, it is difficult to offer a single definition of family , given that each community and historical moment affect the parameters of this social organization (Roos et al., 2006 ).
