Abstract

The fundamental objective of this work is to study the thermomechanical behaviour of a disc brake with various geometric pad configurations, maintaining the same contact surfaces and by varying the magnitudes of the inner contact radius rint and contact angle θ , through the braking process using dry contact sliding conditions. A feedforward analysis is carried out to find the maximum temperature, the global strains, the Von Mises stress on the disc and the contact pressures on the pads at various times of the simulation. In the thermomechanical modelling of disc braking, the disc/pad wear depth distribution was determined on the basis of Archard’s law, considering the contact pressure, specific wear rate and sliding velocity.
