Many industries are being transformed by digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI), and the world of healthcare, including community pharmacy (CP), is no exception [1, 2]. Given that the premise of AI is to learn from experiences, its potential capabilities are vast [3]. It is likely that AI systems will learn how to consult patients regarding minor ailments, for example. These consultations could even happen away from the CP building, with the patient simply attending to purchase an AI-recommended medication. Furthermore, AI could quickly review guidelines, e.g., National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines, and then recommend that a patient starts a particular course of treatment. It may even combine this with pharmacogenomics to determine the most appropriate treatment for individual patients. Opportunities in de-prescribing may also be available, with patients being monitored for health outcomes and then medicines discontinued when no longer needed. In addition, AI tools may be able to predict whether a patient is likely to adhere to their medication and therefore create opportunities for pharmacists to intervene to offer support.
