Abstract

With more than 18,000 publications referenced in PubMed as of today (including over 4,000 ones with ‘furosemide’ within their title, assuming that they specifically focus on it), furosemide is by far the blockbuster for publishing about diuretics. It has experienced a continuous rise from 1964 (which saw the very first article on this topic1) to 1986 (reaching a peak of almost 500 papers published in a single year), then a decline until 2004 when a new ‘hype’ just began with 2024 almost reaching its historical peak.
