ABSTRACT Introduction Workplace (WP) environments and patient adherence are both negatively impacted when there is an increase of microaggressions (MA) present. MA are defined as everyday verbal, nonverbal, or environmental slights, snubs, or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon a marginalized group membership. Objectives The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of an MA educational presentation. Study Design We developed a 1-hour, web-based educational presentation on MA. A survey was distributed to all participants, after the presentation, to assess their self-reported knowledge related to concepts presented in the educational training. Responses were recorded on an agreement scale. Methods National recruitment for the session was conducted via emails to practicing American Board-Certified Orthotic/Prosthetic (OP) clinicians. Results A total of 16/22 participants completed the survey. There was an overall increase in agreement for all the responses. The greatest statistically significant changes were noted in how much participants felt they were prepared to respond if they witnessed MA toward a patient or themselves and in their ability to properly identify MA in the WP. Most participants agreed that MA training can directly reduce MA in the WP. Conclusions Participants tended to agree in all areas that the information provided in the presentation increased their awareness of MA in the WP. The study showed that the 1-hour session was well received by the participants. Most participants note improvement in their knowledge about MA and said that they felt more comfortable with using the skills presented during the session. Clinical Relevance Statement MA training can decrease the instance of MA in the OP WP, therefore increasing a positive WP environment.
