A new species of Hua (Gastropoda, Semisulcospiridae) from Yunnan, southwest China

Abstract

Species of the semisulcospirid freshwater gastropod Hua are mainly distributed in Guangxi, southwest China, and northern Vietnam, and are sensitive to water quality. The new species Hua luquanensis sp. nov. is described from southwest China, Yunnan Province, Kunming City, Luquan County, Zhuanlong Dragon Spring, based on morphological and molecular evidence. The new species is distinguished from its congeners by a combination of characters, including a smooth shell with 4–6 whorls, outer marginal radular teeth with 14 denticles, a body width of about 61.4–74.8% of shell height, and a large body whorl comprising about 79.8–91.7% of shell height.
