This article explores the impact of the Culturelink Network over its three decades of operation, asserting its potential as a significant source of inspiration and influence for shaping future cultural policies. Established in 1989 by UNESCO and the Council of Europe as part of the World Decade for Cultural Development, Culturelink emerged as a “network of networks” aimed at bridging isolation and fostering research cooperation in cultural development, particularly concerning international cultural cooperation issues. With its focal point based at IRMO in Croatia, Culturelink maintained a commitment to global cultural development and a decentralized perspective, providing a platform for diverse voices from all continents to discuss pressing cultural policy challenges. Through an analysis of Culturelink's development, its research activities, publications, and events, this paper highlights the network's contributions to shaping cultural policy discourse, particularly its emphasis on social justice and decolonization as fundamental principles for future cultural policy.
