Abstract This study investigates the professional integration of young applied statistics graduates in Algeria using the Cox proportional hazards model. Analyzing time-to-employment duration, the study identifies key determinants influencing workforce entry. Findings reveal significant effects of language proficiency and cohort year. Arabic proficiency was associated with lower employment hazards compared to French, while English proficiency exhibited higher hazards. The 2000–2004 cohort demonstrated substantially prolonged job-seeking duration relative to recent graduates. Lack of open positions emerged as the predominant obstacle to employment, followed by procedural difficulties and skill mismatches. The public sector absorbed most graduates, with services and public administration being the largest employers. Though no gender differences in hazards were found, males exhibited longer mean survival times to first employment. This research provides insights into challenges faced by Algerian statisticians, highlighting determinants of successful professional integration and implications for enhancing employability through tailored policies and interventions.
