Abstract

• Compared nanolime, nanosilica, and nano Ba(OH) 2 for fresco consolidation. • Tests on frescoes from Santa Maria della Grotta and Crispia Salvia. • Ba(OH) 2 gave strong consolidation, high breathability, low color change. • Nanosilica reduced vapor flow; nanolime caused whitening, less stability. • Ba(OH) 2 proved most effective for humid, sulphated hypogeal frescoes.
