Whole-genome sequencing was performed to characterize a fungal isolate obtained from chocolate spot lesions on broad bean ( Vicia faba) collected in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, in 2023. The assembled draft genome of the isolate (strain VfpI5) showed 98.9% completeness based on the Ascomycota BUSCO dataset. Comparative analysis of the genome and representative phylogenetic marker genes identified the fungus as Botrytis fabiopsis. Pathogenicity tests confirmed that the isolate caused typical chocolate spot symptoms on broad bean leaves. This study provides the first draft genome sequence of B. fabiopsis and documents its occurrence as a causal agent of chocolate spot on broad bean in Japan, representing the first record of this pathogen in the country.
