Abstract

Aspergillus flavus contaminates crops by producing highly carcinogenic aflatoxins, posing significant economic and public health risks across the globe. Here, we report the complete mitochondrial genome of A. flavus AF13, a highly stress-tolerant and aflatoxigenic strain with an existing reference-grade chromosome-level nuclear genome assembly. The circular mitogenome is 29,187 bp with a GC content of 26.1%, encoding 14 protein-coding genes, 27 transfer RNA genes, and 2 ribosomal RNA genes. Pairwise alignment showed that the AF13 mitogenome had an average identity of 99.88% to 11 other A. flavus mitogenomes. The A. flavus AF13 mitogenome will be a valuable resource for respiration metabolism and fungicide resistance studies. [Formula: see text] Copyright © 2026 The Author(s).
