Abstract

From Feeble Signals to Intense X-rays: Physical Foundations, Technological Applications, and Future Perspectives of Amplification Mehmet KeçeciORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9937-983907.07.2026 Abstract: Lee De Forest's first amplifier patent (US841387), registered in 1907, paved the way for the amplification of weak electrical signals and laid the foundations of modern electronics. Today, this principle has been taken to far more advanced levels in X-ray technologies. This paper comprehensively examines the concept of amplification, starting from its theoretical framework, through X-ray lasers (X-ray CPA), photon counting detectors, energy/wavelength dispersive XRF spectrometers, fusion plasma diagnostic systems, and intriguing phenomena such as the X-ray mirage. Moreover, future perspectives ranging from compact GW-class X-ray sources to artificial-intelligence-assisted spectroscopy are discussed. The study reveals that amplification is not merely a circuit technique; on the contrary, it serves as an interdisciplinary bridge that sheds light on the deepest layers of matter.
