Following motor learning, information associated with this learning may be inaccessible in memory. Here, we used passive movement as a retrieval cue to improve motor memory performance. The specificity of retrieval cues needed to have a beneficial effect was investigated. We found that passive movements that overlap the direction of motor learning facilitate memory retrieval. Passive movements in surrounding directions provide no benefit at all.
