The aim of this article is to propose an interpretation of sports corruption that is consistent with the already consolidated economic dimension which characterises the sports sector, an element that has been legally recognised by the European Union. In this context, competition law, which has approached sport from a commercial perspective, can be useful as a starting point for establishing a criminal regulation in line with this connotation. A regulation addressing corruption in sports with a European criminal perspective is thus proposed, drawing inspiration from the jurisprudential evolution of sport in the history of integration. This approach would, in turn, make the current Spanish regulation of match-fixing more coherent and meaningful.
