argued against 'common efforts to formulate and impose standards of critical evaluation that would be used to define what is theoretical and what is not' and that these 'standards' were then used to devalue work, particularly by Black women, that did not fitwork that was described as 'not-theory' or not theoretical in the right way (hooks, 1994: 63).I value Yueng's manifesto for a particular kind of theory and believe that such theories have their place in the toolkit of critical geographers.I also believe, however, that he underestimates the other styles of theory that he is seeking to critiquetheoretical styles that are much closer to my own.
