Abstract

This article explores women's role in envisioning the nation during the late Ottoman period, focusing on the feminist magazine Women's World (Kadınlar Dünyası). It reveals women's agency in imagining communities, offering insights for both nationalism and feminist studies, highlighting how women linked their emancipation to the nation's survival. Unlike male nationalist elites and their neglect of gender, women advocated for a modern, progressive, industrial nation where educated, economically independent, and autonomous women were seen as crucial for the nation's preservation.
