For nearly 20 months, since October 2023, Palestinians in Gaza have endured a relentless campaign of annihilation.The statistics alone defy comprehension: over 56 000 people killed-one third of them children under 18-with evidence suggesting that this is a 40% undercount.More than 1200 families have been killed, and 470 000 people now at risk of famine. 1 -4 But it is not only the scale of death that should haunt us, it is also the nature of it.Mothers, fathers, children, and grandparents are blown apart while they sleep in makeshift tents in so-called safe zones.Hundreds of 2000-pound bombs are dropped.These are so powerful that they obliterate buildings and those inside, leaving only body parts or, in some cases, no remains at all.Survivors collect pieces of bodies in plastic bags.Sometimes parents collect their children, other times children collect the remains of their family.
