Abstract

Abstract Medical sociology has traditionally been concerned with the ways in which medical knowledge is applied. Less work has been done on the construction of knowledge in the laboratories of the basic medical sciences. This paper aims to extend the field of interest of medical sociology by introducing some recent developments in the sociology of science and technology (the ‘strong programme’).
