This article seeks to analyse the concept of power delegation within the realm of land governance, examining the methodologies employed and the experiences of different countries. The objective is to identify diverse approaches and extract relevant insights for application in the Ethiopian context. Although there is no one-size-fits-all approach to govern the power delegation in land governance in federations, a review of selected federations yields several pertinent lessons for Ethiopia. These include the necessity for constitutionally sanctioned upward delegation; the culture of reasserting centralized powers; the importance of leveraging supreme federal institutions to counteract instances of federal overreach; the need for a decentralized party system to realize authentic federalism; and a timely call to reconsider the constitutional adjudication system. This article posits that the lessons identified may be beneficial for Ethiopia, if supported by appropriate legal, constitutional and institutional reforms.
