Abstract

This symposium explores the concept of “progress” and its economic achievements in Progressive Era American economics (1890–1920). This period of deep upheavals in American society was characterized by controversies on the concept of progress among the economics profession. The contributions help understand the extent to which these controversies participated in shaping Progressive Era American economics as well in framing public policies.
