Many researchers adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic by turning to online study protocols. Yet, some types of data collection require in person research and even access inside participants’ homes. We discuss our experiences as community organization and university research partners carrying out a longitudinal study of healthy homes interventions in a low-income, limited English proficiency population at the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. We faced challenges involving recruitment, enrollment and data collection that were compounded by the pandemic and long-term nature of this research. We reflect on study methods and strategies that mobilized social connections and relied on the community organization’s long-standing engagement and relationships of trust in the local community.
