The spotty distribution of intense damage during the 1928 earthquake,in structures of the same type strongly indicates that local subsoilconditions in the area were one of the governing factors in theassesment of damage to structures. The microzoning map of Corinth andLoutraki has been compiled using the microtremor method and it isin a rather good agreement with detailed information of damaged buildingsduring 1928 earthquake. The water table is within 10 meters ofthe surface in those areas of Corinth and Loutraki suffering the largestdamages during 1928 earthquake and this confirms the influence of thewater table elevation to the macroseismic field.
