Abstract

This special issue examines the historical role of crop sciences and scientists in the uneven and often inequitable development of today's global food system. The 14 papers in this special issue explore a range of crops, countries, and cultures, focusing on the dynamic historical relationships among ecologies, societies, knowledge systems, and technologies that have produced the institutions and insights of crop science and, as such, condition the possibilities for the future of food.
