Summary?Katatopygia cerestensis n. sp., first fossil representative of the mycetophilid extant genus Katatopygia, is described after a compression from the Oligocene lacustrine Konservat Lagerstätte of Céreste (Luberon, southern France). This Holarctic genus is mainly distributed in Boreal taiga but is also recorded from the warmer area of Taiwan, which is congruent with its presence under the warm paleoclimate of the Oligocene of France.
