Norm Friesen is a Professor in Educational Technologies at the Department for Educational Leadership, Research, and Technology, College of Education, Boise State University. Friesen’s work spans a number of areas related to education and technology: e-learning (Friesen 2009 ), relations between physical and online classrooms (Friesen 2011a ), technology and the new language of learning (Friesen 2013 ), the history and evolution of textbooks and lectures in education (Friesen 2017a , 2011b , 2020a ), the technological imaginary and personalized learning (Friesen 2020b ), networked learning (Friesen 2024a ), and the importance of ‘tact and the pedagogical relation’ (Friesen 2022 , 2024b ). In his work, Friesen often recognizes and activates ‘forgotten connections’ within educational science (see Mollenhauer 2014; Schleiermacher 1896 ). He also often returns to key thinkers in media and communication such as Kittler and McLuhan (Friesen 2011c ) and interprets Dewey as a keen observer of educational media in his own time (Friesen 2015 , 2021 ).
