The light spectrum influences fish physiology and behaviour. This study assessed the effects of light on development, survival and intraspecific predation in matrinxã larvae (Brycon amazonicus). Larvae (6-50 HAH, 200 larvae/L) were exposed to darkness, white, red, blue or green light. Darkness resulted in slower development but higher survival and lower stress, whereas red light increased mortality. Darkness delayed morphological changes linked to aggression and cannibalism, improving survival. Dark conditions optimized growth by reducing aggressive interactions. Light manipulation during B. amazonicus rearing enhances larval welfare and supports sustainable Amazonian aquaculture.
