Abstract

Extreme ultraviolet photons of known energy have been used to form CO 2 + in specific states of excitation. This technique provides a greatly simplified emission spectrum compared with any other means of excitation. Thus, a number of bands previously observed in high-resolution studies have now been properly identified owing to the simplicity of the present spectra. In addition, the symmetric stretching quantum v 1 and the bending quantum v 2 , for the CO 2 + X 2 Π g state have been determined. The value of v 1 is only slightly different from that found by Mrozowski. The bending quantum v 2 has not been previously reported and is [Formula: see text].
