Abstract

Using multivariate EEG decoding, we show that scene-category information follows different temporal profiles across two presentation regimes: abrupt scene appearance after a grayscale screen and gradual scene emergence during continuous visual input. Our findings demonstrate that time-resolved decoding is sensitive to stimulus-presentation context and should not be interpreted as an invariant signature of a fixed visual processing hierarchy.
