Multiple blackberry leaf tissue nutrient sufficiency range recommendations are published across the United States. However, most are published in production guides and lack explanation of the methodology used to develop the sufficiency range. In 2022–23, across seven states, a leaf tissue nutrient survey was conducted to assess seasonal variation of nutrient concentrations in blackberry primocane leaves compared with published nutrient sufficiency ranges. From that dataset, new blackberry nutrient sufficiency range recommendations were developed for erect blackberries in the southeastern United States at four phenological stages. These sufficiency ranges were developed based on the range in nutrient concentration between the 25th and 75th quantile of the data, in tandem with modifications based on knowledge of the crop and industry. These results align with findings of other regions and with the current understanding of the southeastern US blackberry industry. This paper provides blackberry researchers with insight into the methodology used to develop the nutrient sufficiency range recommendations used for southeastern blackberry.
