Proto-Matacoan phonology and some lexical items are reconstructed. Sound correspondences across the Matacoan languages are presented and cognates that exhibit each correspondence set are listed. The reconstructed phonemes are discussed, problems identified, and some resolutions of complications are proposed. Several loanwords are examined. More than 150 cognate sets with their corresponding lexical reconstruction are given. These cognate sets involve only cases where cognates are found in at least three of the four Matacoan languages.
