Joan Robinson addressed fundamental issues regarding economic philosophy and methodology. This paper seeks to provide a general overview of Robinson’s work in the aforementioned subdisciplines by focusing primarily on her relevant contributions from the 1960s to 1980s. It shows how Robinson argued against neoclassical models in favour of an interdisciplinary, historical approach that acknowledges the complexity and dynamic character of economic processes. Robinson also emphasised the need for a methodologically pluralistic and pragmatic approach that grounds economic analysis in real-world conditions and takes moral considerations into account, as well as the limitations of applying natural science methodologies to economics.
