Abstract

The majority of the world’s working population earn their living in the informal economy. Therefore, any attempt to promote decent work for all must engage with this sector. Yet, much informal wage employment goes underreported, while tailored policies are often lacking. Based on a transdisciplinary case study in Accra, this policy brief identifies key challenges and calls for policies to strengthen worker collective action, lower barriers to accessing social protection systems, and engage informal employers as part of the solution.
